Alpine Home
Overview
The Alpine Home project involved designing a spacious and luxurious 8,000-square-foot residence located in Alpine, Utah. Completed in 2010 and built by Salone Homes, this custom home embodies the essence of mountain modern design, tailored to meet the unique needs and desires of the homeowners. The design focused on creating open, airy spaces with vaulted ceilings and integrating functional areas like a mother-in-law apartment and a gym.
Project Goals
Maximize Open Living Spaces: Create an expansive main living area with vaulted ceilings to promote openness and connectivity.
Incorporate a Mother-in-Law Apartment: Design a comfortable and private living space in the basement for extended family.
Include Functional Amenities: Integrate a home gym and a large cold storage area to enhance the home’s utility.
Optimize for Future Additions: Ensure the design allows for future enhancements like a swimming pool and pool house.
Design and Implementation
Layout/Structural Changes:
- Designed the main floor with approximately 80% vaulted ceilings, opening up to a loft area upstairs.
- Included four bedrooms and a loft, with the master suite conveniently located on the main floor.
- Developed a spacious front porch extending the full length of the house, providing substantial cold storage space beneath.
Materials and Finishes:
- Flooring: Installed Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring on both the main and basement levels for durability and aesthetics.
- Exterior: Used materials consistent with mountain modern design, ensuring the home blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings.
Key Elements:
- Open Living Area: The main living room features soaring vaulted ceilings that connect visually with the loft and upstairs spaces.
- Mother-in-Law Apartment: A fully equipped, private apartment in the basement offers comfort for extended family stays.
- Home Gym: A dedicated space in the basement designed for fitness and wellness activities.
- Expansive Cold Storage: Utilized the space beneath the full-length front porch to create a massive cold storage area.
Future-Proof Design: Planned the layout to accommodate future additions, such as the swimming pool and pool house (though not designed by us).
Challenges
- Construction Misinterpretations: The framing crew did not initially follow the design plans correctly.
- Solution: Acted swiftly to make on-the-fly adjustments, ensuring the integrity of the design was maintained without significant delays.
- Vaulted Ceiling Engineering: Creating such expansive vaulted spaces required precise structural planning.
- Solution: Collaborated closely with structural engineers to ensure safety and stability while achieving the desired aesthetic.
Outcome
