The “Back Nine Golf – Murray” project, highlighted on the Shadd Johnson Design site, showcases a thoughtful, multifunctional redesign of a 3,115-square-foot indoor golf simulator facility located in Murray, Utah Shadd Johnson Design llc. Tasked with designing a space that balanced high-energy activity and quiet functionality, Shadd Johnson Design crafted an environment that seamlessly melds aesthetic appeal with usability.
Project Goals
Client-Centric Design: Accommodate a large number of clients with 3 bays for golfing.
Room Spaces: Maximize every inch of this office space from left to right even front to back.
Entertaining Spaces: Create open areas suitable for hosting more parties.
Functional Aesthetics: Integrate design elements that are both practical and visually appealing.
Design and Implementation
Functional Layout & Zoning:
Office: Conference room for meetings.
Bays:
- 2 open Golf Simulators bays.
- Separate one Golf Simulator bay room for privacy.
At the heart of the design are three golf simulator bays. Two open bays create opportunities for group interaction, while one enclosed bay offers privacy for individuals or smaller gatherings. In addition, the facility includes a private conference room for meetings, a discreet storage area, and a bathroom. Furthermore, each of these elements was carefully arranged to ensure smooth flow between active and quieter zones. Therefore, the layout supports both recreational play and business-oriented use.
Materials and Atmosphere:
Equally important is the selection of materials. Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring provides durability and style, making it well-suited for heavy foot traffic. At the same time, carpeted walls were incorporated to absorb sound, enhancing the acoustic experience within the bays. In addition, accents of shiplap bring in warmth and texture, ensuring the space feels both inviting and professional. Consequently, the atmosphere is modern, clean, and highly functional.
Design Challenges Addressed
On the other hand, the project was not without its challenges. Compact bathroom spaces risked feeling cramped, yet careful spatial planning created a sense of openness. Moreover, overhead structural clutter from previous tenants had to be addressed. By reimagining ceiling treatments, the design team eliminated disarray and restored visual harmony. Ultimately, these solutions ensured the space met both client expectations and practical requirements.
